Muay Thai Training

Muay Thai, a powerful full contact sport, requires a fighter to be at his peak fitness just like any other marital arts. As Muay Thai uses a fighter’s body parts as weapons, training plays a crucial role in determining the best fighter. Muay Thai involves various tough training methods and only those who have the determination to survive it can become a great fighter. Basic training methods in Muay Thai involve punching techniques, kicking techniques, elbow techniques, knee techniques and other conditioning methods.

Basic Training

Basic training methods in Muay Thai involve the endurance training which can last more than 6 to 10 weeks. Before every training workout, it is important to start with a warm up. Endurance training is important to assess the stamina and fitness level of a trainee. Cardio workouts like running, jumping, jogging, swimming, cycling and aerobics should be practiced continuously. These types of workouts will increase the stamina and physical fitness of a professional fighter. In the beginning stages, training duration should not last too long in order to avoid muscle cramps and tissue damage.

Strength Training

Physical strength required for a Muay Thai bout can be gathered through strength training. Weight training is one of the best ways to gain physical strength. Other than weight training, push ups and chin ups can also be helpful in gaining strength. It is important to gradually increase the intensity of workouts in order to acquire more strength and power.

Skill Training

Muay Thai requires a fighter to be skillful in various techniques including punches, kicks, elbows and knees. This can be attained through various training methods like shadow boxing, pad training, punching bag workouts and other resistance workouts. Developing technical skills is an important thing to excel in Muay Thai. Though physical training is extremely important, it is nothing if a Muay Thai fighter lacks fighting skills.

Conditioning & Other Workouts

Body conditioning is an important part in Muay Thai training. This is normally done before a big fighting competition. Conditioning involves rigorous workouts like bag punching, pad kicking and sparring etc. Stretching exercises are also important in Muay Thai training as it involves high kicking and knee strikes. Mental training is also a sure way to gain victory during competitions. Relaxation is the key part to gain mental strength and it is very much useful when practiced after rigorous training workouts.
